HND Fashion and textiles

Laura Deane

This is a visual representation of work created throughout my final year using a range of techniques exploring fabric printing, fashion, surface textiles and digital manipulation. The Technology project was interesting as we explored the uses and limits of the 3D printer to create my floral outcome. Working alongside the reputable company V3 apparel to create my own core collection designs was a definite highlight of the year, and to get a in-depth understanding of how a fashion company is run from the owner Michael. I took inspiration from the 80’s women’s power suit and the Super Tree Grove in Singapore for my final major project. I used the lights and steel structure to create my own fabric, the juxtaposition of the straight colour lines and curve shapes really brought my vision to life.

Throughout my final year, I have been developing and refining my creative skills through a range of projects including one with sportswear company V3 Apparel which gave valuable experience of working with a Live Brief. The Technology project encouraged me to experiment further, creating innovative designs utilising the 3D printer technology available to us. My favourite project has been the final project. Taking inspiration from coral reefs I created garments exploring the colours and textures within them by combining pattern cutting, natural dyeing and textiles techniques. I will be progressing to Cardiff Metropolitan University to finish my studies, building on the confidence and skills this course has provided me with.
